I can't get pdf windows to open using IE 7. I can usually save the target unless the link uses javascript to open the pdf - that is when I have the problem. I have Opera on the same pc and I can open pdf links fine in there.

Do you have Adobe Acrobat reader installed on your computer? I don't think IE can natively read pdf's unless Acrobat is installed. Opera probably has the reader built in so that's why it works in that program.

Hi Kurt -
That used to be the case until IE7 came along.
On one PC running IE6, any time I click on PDF file on the net, I had to wait for Adobe ACrobat Reader to load. On another machine running IE7 RC1, Adobe never were called and the PDF opened anyway by IE7 itself.

You 100% sure about that XpUser?
I have a system running Vista with IE7 and it doesn't open pdf files - options are "find" & "save".
I bet if jmsilver99 install's Acrobat Reader, IE7 will open it.

Hi XpUser, I think the reason your saw a pdf open in IE7 was that you had that option selected in the Acrobat program itself. I beleive you still need Acrobat installed to see pdf's in any version of IE.

My previous post has an image in it to show you the Acrobat setting. If you can't see the picture, go into your computing.net profile and turn images on to see it.

I have Acrobat 6.0 Pro installed. I can view pdf files fine through Opera browser. I can even right click, save them and view through IE 7 but I cannot view in IE 7. I was able to view in IE 6. It has something to do with Acrobat 6 --> IE 7. If I upgrade to Acrobat 7 that will solve problem but that costs $$$. If nothing works I can probably upgrade Reader and make that my default to open - that might work but I was really looking for a simpler fix to get IE to work with my Acrobat Pro 6.

Note: If I uncheck "display in web browser" then I can view the file directly in Acrobat even when the link is a javascript cmd. This is a workaround I can live with.

no native pdf support in ie 7 ... but foxit reader works like a charme with both version 6 and 7 of ie ... and way faster than acrobat

have you set foxit as the default pdf handler?

yes, if I uncheck display in web browser and then save the file it opens in foxit - however if i check display in web browser a window opens and I get a blank page
if i go into the details of the error by clicking on the exclamation point in the lower right corner of the IE browser, I get the msg "Object Expected"
