IE 6.0 not displaying linked images

I am a recent convert to Windows, so I am not sure what settings I need to changed, but it is really frustrating.
Most of the htm/html pages show up (i.e. imbedded images and rollover buttons), but linked jpeg image does not show up at all.

Thank you for your response. I have followed every suggestion on the url you offered, but I am not sure the url applies to my problem, as I show neither a red x or a placeholder, where the missing image should be. I know where they ought to be and even if I run my mouse over "where-it-oughtta-be", the cursors dos not change from the "arrow" into the "pointed finger" to signify that there is a link present.

This is frustrating, because I can see SOME images. I *CAN* see jpeg/gifs with no links and rollover jpegs/gifs. My Windows XP just does not display jpeg/gif links and I would never know unless I had other computers to verify that there is something missing. Well, that and the fact that I cannot navigate through a website.
