please help
i recently purchased a new p.c.
i told them i wanted an amd athlon xp1.8GHz processor.
however i recently installed norton utilities which identifies the processor as an AMD ATHLON(tm) processor 1.1GHz.
however before i go back to the shop and lay down the riot act i want to make sure this information is correct.
when i check system information in the control panel it simply states AMD ATHLON and not the processor size.
are there any programs i can download that will fully identify the processor
i am running windows xp profesional
thanks

Hi.
Your processor's defauld speed is 1.1MHz, but they simply made it work @ 1.8MHz, you can increase and decrease your processor speed in your BIOS. Do you what it is and how to get there? Keep pressing DELETE button when your computer starts. Go to CPU settings and you can change speed your self. Same thing with me. My processor itself is 750MHz, but it works @ 1000MHz.
If you want to donwload any utility for your processor go to: www.cnetdownload.com and type CPU identirier or CPU and press search.
I hope i answered your question.

Probely you have buy a Amd XP1800, that runs on 1530Mhz. (when your bios is oke)
In your Bios make sure that the cpu is running on 133Mhz and not on 100Mhz.That will fix the problem

its not that there is a problem, i just want to make sure i got what payed for as i have now discovered that i requested a 7200rpm hard drive and they have fitted a 5400rpm drive.
ive downloaded several programs but none o them tell me the size of the processor, the only information i can get is that it is an amd athlon k7-1150 MHz
so am i right in thinking that i have a 1.1G processor fitted not a 1.8G as requested.

Try Sisoft Sandra and Dr Hardware. Do a google search as I don't have the urls on me. Both will tell you everything about your cpu and other system info.

When you requested a 1,8Ghz cpu, you must have a Amd XP2200, that runs on 1,8something Ghz.
If you want to know for sure, take out your cpu fan, and read what's on the cpu.
If that say, XP2200 then you have a 1,8Ghz cpu, but probely it say Xp1800.
That's the trick from Amd, the cpu name is not the cpu speed, but it works as fast as an Intel cpu with that speed.
AMD XP1800 (1530MHZ) give's the same results as a Intel cpu that run's on 1800Mhz.
My friend had the same problem, really make sure your bios says, cpu speed 133mhz and memory speed 133mhz.
When it is on 100, then you see on boot, 1100mhz, but when it's on 133, you see XP1800.

Sorry forgot,
the multiplier on a xp1800 is 11,5X.
11,5X100=1150Mhz
11,5X133=1530Mhz (that's the speed a XP1800 runs on)

Hi all!
======================================================
You also can get a very nice little application called "Belarc Advisor" from any download site. Install and run Belarc Advisor and you'll see a clear personalized webpage with all your specs.
What Belarc will tell you:
Serial number - Motherboard's make and model - BIOS information - Bus clock - OS - Processor - Drives - Controllers - Buses - System model - Memory modules - Display -Devices - Installed software. It will not tell the Windows XP key but Win9x. Note: It is not a testing tool, it just can see everything that is in your box!
It probably will surprise you how many random programs dwell inside your computer. Click on the asterisk and Belarc tells you exactly where each piece of software found a dwelling place inside your machine.
Belarc Advisor is a small download about 600KB and it's free for personal use.Cheers the Peter
