Comment:

i have problems with cdrw drive not reading very well at the moment and was wondering if it should have ultra dma in the IDE advanced settings. it has p10 mode at moment and also has option for "DMA if available" but this doesnt seem to be available for some reason.
i seem to remember that at one time it had multi-word dma, but not any longer.

so i guess really what i want to know is, what is the best mode to have for a cdrom/cdrw ? and how do the different modes differ in the performance of the drives?

thanks

the best mode for cd-rw is ultra dma mode.
you can enable them thru bios BUT you will need 80 conductor cable to be able to get it work right.
