I currently have window xp's default driver for my ide ata/atapi controllers. My primary ide channel is set to udma mode 5 for device 0 and device 1. Now for my secondary ide channel it is set for udma mode 4 for device 0 and udma 2 for device 1. My problem is that I cant play dvds if I dont change my secondary ide channel device 0 to udma mode 2, how do I do that? I looked everywhere in the device manager but I cant find any settings to change my udma modes. If I install the nvidia drivers it would let me change modes but I dont want to install the nvidia drivers, so can anyone help me out with this?

have you tried to switch the cable connections from the back of the drives to see if that switches the settings to the correct drive.

What do you mean by switching the cable connections? I am using a 40 pin cable ribbon that I connect to my secondary ide on my motherboard.

The default Microsoft IDE controller drivers provide basic functionality only. They are not really meant to be used as anything more than temporary drivers, prior to installing the motherboard drivers. If you want full functionality, you'll have to install the drivers supplied with your motherboard.
