Can some techies help me out with this:

Under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers/Primary IDE Channel, there is no Advanced Settings page for me to select dma or pio. Same for secondary channel.

Under Disk drives of Device Manager/Polices, the whole page with heading Write caching & safe removal is shaded out so that I can't choose optimise for safe removal or performance.

Gigabyte 8irx
Intel 845 ddr
512 ddr sdram
Primary Master: LBA, ATA 100, 60042...
Primary Slave: None
Sec Master: CDrom, ata33
Sec Slave : CD-RW, PIO 4

XP automatically chooses the best setting between UDMA/PIO.

The change occured with a recent update, you can look for it at Microsoft.com
