I have a Pavillion DV5000 and when I boot the computer it goes to the Blue Screen and says"click on your name" but my name is not showing. I did a Ctrl+Alt+Del and a Windows signin box showed with the name "Carey" and my name is not "Carey"! I have no idea what to do. I did a test and everything passed. Any ideas?

Try entering the safe mode, using the administrator setting when prompted. Then check the user accounts to see what is going on.

Does anyone else use this same computer?

Have you tried clicking on Carey?

If that works, do you see the icons on the desktop for your user, or different icons?
.......

"Try entering the safe mode, using the administrator setting when prompted. Then check the user accounts to see what is going on."

If you don't know how to do that....

Remove any bootable CD sor DVDs you have in drives.
Press F8 repeatedly while booting, don't hold down the key, starting early in the boot - e.g. right after the mboard beeps once.
From the choices that appear choose Safe Mode.

(The screen will then fill with lines about things that are loading, then it will stay that way for as long as a couple of minutes.
The screen then clears the lines and is black with a little text.
Then Windows loads and the log on screen appears. )

If your user name is not there, click on Administrator.

(the screen turns black, a window pops up.
Click on Yes on the window that appears.)

Click on Start - Control Panel - User Accounts.

Is your user name there?
