There is no such thing as "windows media player icons".

The icons are set by the program that opens a file. That is the program that is 'associated' with that file. If you change the association, you will change the icon.

To change the program that opens a certain file type, accomplish the below:

Right click a file and select Open with. It should show a few files that you can use to open that particular type. There will also be a `Choose Program' option. Clicking on it will give you another screen where you can select the program that you want to open it. Notice the `Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' option in the bottom left of the window.

Is media player your default player?

Open media player. Click tools, options, click the file types tab. Make sure that all the file types you want media player to open by default are checked. Click apply, close.

HotShot, Just double click on the words "Add Icon Cache Size to Folder Options/View" to download the .reg file. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. This will give you 4 icon cache choices under the View tab in Folder Options. You can experiment with the choices starting with the smallest first.
It's on line 166 right column.

Here's the link again.

HotShot, I wouldn't recommend doing that. The four sizes in the original reg file are large enough to handle any number of icons. Actually many people recommend using the smallest size necessary to correct the type icon problem you were having. It's your call but this is my opinion.
