Comment:

I recently RMA'd my hard drive, but before I did, I copied all of the contents of the old one onto the new one. I no longer have the old one.

But now some of my icons are messed up. They have the generic "file" icon. For example, all files associated with windows media player have no specific icon. The file still plays normally, but the icon is messed up.

How do I restore it? I tried going to folder options > File Types > mp3 > delete

The icon then comes back to the normal mp3 icon, and when I open the file it will ask which program I want to use. I choose WMP, and the icon reverts back to the generic icon.

Right click on one of those files, Select Open with and then click on Chose Program.... Then Select Windows Media Player and then Put a Check mark on "Always Use the Selected Program....." Hopefully this helps.
Let us know what happens.

Take Care and Good Luck,
Nick

My PC never Crashes nor does it have Bugs - It just develops random Features at times.

Leo2K7, Start your computer in SAFE mode then restart it in Normal mode. This will rebuild the Iconcache.db file. You may also want to go to the link below line 121 left column and download & run the Increase Icon Cache file which is a .vbs file. Save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.
"NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry".
