I think thats the best advice.

If you want to keep your files, then the next best bet would probably be to first of all look for newly installed software in the Start> Programs menu. And of course uninstall if thats an option. Next thing would probably be to go to Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Prgrams and look for any programs that you do not recognise or which look similar to what you are seeing on the desktop (ignore anything with Windows or a several 'programs' on top of each other with a bunch of numbers- those are Windows Updates) Of course 'remove' anything there that should not be there.

Once you have done all you can to get rid of what is not meant to be there, then try to run the anti-spyware programs. Dont forget that sometimes these 'malwares' will not be eraseable just like that but will require you to restart and have the anti-spyware run itself before anything else, thus removing that which was too stubborn to be removed otherwise.

In short- ya gotta first do what you can convetionally, through removing that which shouldnt be there. And then use SpyBot/AdAware etc. and follow them through completey by allowing them to load on reboot, if necessary. Of course all this is assuming that you already did a Virsu Scan to make sure you dont have a virus which will reinstall itself after deletion over and over...

There are some free malware protectors out there which will not allow any of that stuff to install itself in the first place, as long as you dont authorize it.

Thats all I can think of, maybe someone else might have some more advice...

Good luck,
Larry

Simon, Messenger 7 is not Messenger Plus! so leave that one alone. Your computer very well may have the lop.com malware on it. You may wnat to go to the link below and download and run the "new_uninstall.exe".

Simon, The best advice I can give you is to go to the link below, read the instuctions for HijackThis the download HijackThis(HiJackThis 1.99(exe) from here)into its own folder and run it. DO NOT Fix anything but make a copy of the HijackThis log and post it at the second link below. There are experts with these logs who will help you with your problem and hopefully get rid of it.

HijackThis Tutorial and download

Hijackthis Logs And Problems Forum

Again: DO NOT FIX anything after running HijackThis until you are advised by one of the experts at the HijackThis Logs And Problems Forum.
