Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to stop or "fix" this.

Whenever I copy or move a bunch of files from a folder (or anywhere really) to my desktop, they are placed on my desktop diagonally going down and right. This also has the effect of "pushing" any and all other icons already on the desktop out of the way... messing up my "icon setup". ;-) This includes copying files from a WinZip archive too.

Example: I use the "details" setting in windows explorer all the time... if I highlight and move 4 files... instead of the "up and down" order, they are placed diagonally down and right with the first file being placed top left... much like this >>

...File 1...
.........File 2...
...............File 3...
.....................File 4...

I want them placed on my desktop like this >>

...File 1...
...File 2...
...File 3...
...File 4...

Or mabye if I'm using the "normal" icon setting, then to be placed like this.. staying in "formation">>

...File 1...File 2...File 3...
...File 4...File 5...File 6...
...File 7...File 8...

This has been annoying me with WinXP since I installed it.

In other versions of Windows I've used, when I did this they stayed in formation and took up the empty space.

All I want WinXP to do is copy my files to the desktop and place them in a straight up and down line, ONLY taking the empty space.. and NOT moving my other icons out of the way.

Thanks for any info and help.
TK.
