Hello.

I have windows xp professional. The problem i have with my OS is that icons of different applications appear on the wrong application. This occurs when i play a game(true combat elite) and when i quit it, it happens. For example, i have Imgburn and whenever i play a game then i quit it, the icon for img burn changes to MSN icon or Windows media player icon. However imgburn works perfectly fine. The icon doesnot revert back only after reboot. So far it only happens with Imgburn. Also this system right now is reformatted system so before it, i also had win xp and this did not happen with img burn.

My system
P4 530J@ 3.15 GHz
Asus P5S800-VM
Kingston ddr 1 gb
Westren Digital WD800BB
ATi Radeon 9600 @ 390,250
550 Watt PSU
Windows Xp

Win 32, Start your computer in SAFE mode then restart it in Normal mode. This will rebuild the iconcache.db file.

You could also download Tweak UI at the link below. After you install it you'll find it in Satrt>Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI. Open it and under Repair then choose Rebuild Icons.

Let us know if this solves the problem or not.

I would take a guess at why that may have happened.
Most all players want to be the default player for all file types they are capable of playing. When you install any player you need to read the screens at intallation.
You may have had WMP assume the role of the primary player for certain files that were being handled by Img burn before.
Check and see what the default program is for each of the major file types on your computer.
In this case you may have installed an update to WMP that caused this to occur. Updates to IE cause IE to revert to MSN as the default browser. This is by design.
I am attempting to explain the why not the fix.
