anyone have ideas on how to get WIN XP Pro to install? Getting an error that cannot copy from i386\asms. I have partitioned using NSTF and do not have access to regedit. I can only do limited commands from the command prompt

hi, your WinXP Setup CDROM is corrupt. do one thing ... if you have a friend who has a working computer then check the CD properly ... to do that copy the entire contents of the CD to your friend's hard disk. There will definitely be one or more files that cannot be read. make a note of those files. then download a tool from the internet called isobuster. the latest version is 1.3. try to recover the corrupt files with it. if successful ... write a new XP install CD using the working files from the original and the recovered files. for this you will need to use NERO Burning ROM. To make a bootable setup disk you can search on the internet for tutorials on slipstreaming and follow the instructions. if all this doesn't work or if you are too lazy to do it then return the CD to Microsoft and get a replacement. In all probability you must be using a pirated copy ... :-)
