I would certainly agree with you there !!!

Also quite often at the end of a thread the questioner seems to suddenly disappear and you are left not knowing whether his problem was solved or not. We are left to assume that it has. It would be nice to know though.

Thankfully these are a minority.

Knowing what worked would be quite useful for others looking for assistance to a similar problem.

I agree.

I believe a lot of people post
without having any knowledge at
all.

A simple answer from the helper
may confuse them even more.

Go figure. LOL

As Plato stated, people are Essentially Selfish.

Selfish people don't come back to share what work for them.

This has been an ongoing gripe in all forums here since the time [and probably earlier] I came here back in 'ol '99.

If I had a dollar for everyone that failed to reply to my posts [about 60-70%] after the time I've spent trying to help I could retire !

To XpUser,

just curious... in your response #5 you rembered Plato and in previous post you quoted latin sentences. As you stated to live in New York and I can appreciate your technical competence, do you hold a scholastic comptence in ancient literature?

In Italy it is quite common to join scientific and humanistic knowledges (I hold a doctorate degree in electrical engineering with a high school diploma in ancient languages, Greek and Latin), but that occurrence is rare in the US context.

Thanks for the compliment :-)

No I don't hold degrees in ancient literature. It's list that I like to read them for many personal reasons, of which one is to better understand who we are and why we do what we do.

Hi XpUser,

if I could, I would propose you to "honoris causa" degree in "Ancient Literature" despite orbital's mood.

Have a nice day

While i agree with the original statement, sometimes it takes awhile to discover a solution. And with this forum's lack of user friendly features, it doesn't make much sense posting it when it will be buried on page 4 or 5 already. Not many will see it there to benefit from it.

hello murr, hello everyone,

This forum is a FREE forum and many people contribute to its success me included.

I have many times searched for and posted solutions on this forum with success and so your comments and your barbed response to XpUser are unfounded.

I have managed to find very old postings with solutions in them using the search mechanism that they have.

This thread is about change and thus making the point that people should post their final (mainly succesful) outcomes for other peoples benefit is in the spirit of this forum.

So get of your high horse. If you think there is a suggestion you have that might make this forum more useful - POST IT.

I am sure the moderators will not dismiss it out of hand.

At the end of the day remember it is FREE. If you want state of the art facilities, features and search algorithms then you have to pay for it and that is not what this forum is about.

Well, my final post is:

I like this forum. I am very glad that it is here as I have turned to it many times in my adventures to find an answer. I appreciate the search function and the ability to be able to track messages. I try to remember to show my appreciation by saying "thank you." Finally, I appreciate the people who take the time to read and offer answers - without them, we wouldn't even be here.

Oh Please People!

Some of you sound like i just insulted your 'Mother'.

First off, i belong to 9 other forums, some are only single product forums but forums non the less. And of the 10 total forums, this one is the 'Only' one that doesn't offer 'Quoting' in a response, thread bumping and email notification among other features.
Pertaining to this thread, i will give you an example. I had a previous problem with not being able to access Safemode and it was awhile before i figured out the solution. By then, my thread was buried in the back pages and posting the solution there with this forum's present layout, is less beneficial then if thread updating/bumping were in place so everyone could see the solution found.
As for thread tracking, if i have an interest in a topic, being alerted in my system tray of a response is much easier than continually having to come here and check.
This is a good forum with many knowledgeable members and it's helped me through the learning process many times and 'I Appreciate That'. But i'm just pointing out that this forum lacks features that most of the other forums have and the only thing i see being improved here are the 'Ads'. Just turn off your ad blocking software. I did and couldn't believe it.

And by the way, there are many types of forum software that contain these features which are completely 'Free'. There is Free Web Hosting and even many excellent Paid Hosting in the $4-$8/month. So affordability isn't the issue here.

Oh shoot. I do apologize for starting this thread.

murr, please don't jump on the defense wagon so quickly. It is OK to discuss things without getting defensive. I am talking about, "Oh Please People!
Some of you sound like i just insulted your 'Mother'."

It's nice of Mr. Weber to take note of murr's suggestions.

I, personally, am glad that I don't have to put up with instant notification of replies in my email box or in my tray. I would much rather come here, login in and see what messages I have. I already have enough crap to contend with - the less the better.

As for quoting someone else: I can see where there's an advantage to that at times. When I think quoting is necessary, I copy and paste. I am glad that I don't have to sift through a bunch of peoples quotes to read the new message.

I can see where the "thread bumping" can make "hot topics" easier to follow. But, the way this forum is set up doesn't bother me either. I have marked topics for tracking that I am interested in and the system is working for me.

murr, please don't jump on the defense wagon so quickly. It is ok to discuss things without getting defensive.

Unfortunely, it's the other way around. You just proved this by posting again.

All the features i've mentioned are optional so that wouldn't affect you, right?.

Anyways, Justin is a good guy and does listen and the latest is an improvement and i thank him for that.

1 down and a few more to go! lol!

No murr, I wouldn't say "1 down." I wasn't up fighting - I was stating how I felt. My comments weren't meant to start a fight or to provoke you into feeling that I was feeling in some way attacked or that I was attacking. I guess the biggest thing here is that maybe neither of us wants to leave without having the last word huh? Hehe. Well, I'll leave this posting alone NOW because it will go no where - you can have the last word if you feel you need to.
