I was sent malicious email link

Specs: Windows XP
I think I was sent an email link that when opened only deleted a specific file. Is that possible. I think that a specific word or person's name was targeted. At least at this time it looks like only one of my files was deleted

Anything is possible but most often the result of clicking a dubious link is that you get a virus. The symptoms you describe are unusual.

Was the file a system file or one of your own?

Have you searched for the file name just to make sure it wasn't moved somehow?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

This file that seems to have disappeared, I created by myself to keep a record of harassment from a certain individual. This person has been harassing via email, phone, and just about every other way possible. There are legal proceedings involved also. Just seems odd that it seems to be only one disappeared. Will check if it was moved or is hidden somehow. I know this stuff needs to be stored somewhere external. Thankfully one other person has info also. Will take steps to secure it. Was just wondering, and was pretty sure someone with the knowhow could do something like this.

Run recuva to see if the file can be recovered. Get recuva at the link below.

Yet another reason not to give out your phone numbers and email addresses so readily. Unless you're sure you want the person requesting that information to have it just say, 'I don't give those numbers out' or 'I just changed my email/phone number and don't remember it off-hand'.
