I want to get wireless internet on my laptop

June 7, 2011 at 06:38:50
Specs: Windows XP

I want to get wireless internet on my laptop computer, but I don’t know how. I have an inferred port the works, and in control panel, I have an icon for a wireless network. Can I get a wireless network? And if so, can I use it to get wireless internet? Or do get wireless internet another way. My computer was made in 2002, has a floppy, but it also a USB 2.0 port.

If you have a wirless icon in the tray near the clock, your laptop is already wireless capable. You just need a wirless signal. For home use you will need an internet service & wireless router. Have you ever tried right clicking on the icon, then clicking "view available wireless networks"? Have you ever tried your laptop at a local coffee shop or any other place that offers free wifi access?

I looked, but I didn’t find the wireless icon.

You might need to turn on your wireless connection. If it needs to be enabled through hardware, there is usually a key combination to turn it on. Look in your laptops manual. If it needs to be eneabled through the operating system, use the wireless icon your found in the Control Panel.

I read in my manual, and looked in control panel, but did not see any thing about wireless internet.

look under device manager to see if you have a wireless network card installed.

If not, you could buy a usb dongle.

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.
