I had a computer built for me, but I do not have the I P Address, Subnet Mask and Default on this computer. I do know this info from my old computer. How do I enter the info on the new computer. I tried ipconfig/renew and it did no work. It said "Error: system cannot find the file specified"

Are you using DHCP?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Hi Ray,

If you are dialing up to an ISP, usually your IP and subnet will e assigned by the ISP.

For this to happen, you need to have this connection set to 'DHCP' and/or select 'obtain an IP address automatically' in 'network settings'.

If you are dialing up an 'make a new connection', these will usually be the defaults and don't require tinkering.

I have DSL. I am using my laptop right now and I checked my IP Address in DOS. What I want to know is can I put in the IP Address manually or do I need to call my ISP, Thanks for you patience.
