i need my desktop icons back

i recently did a new installation and i noticed on my desktop all i have on it is the recycle bin.....my question is how do i get my other icons back on the desktop??? thanks

Go to Control Panel->Task Bar and Start Menu->(There are Two Tabs on the Top, click on Start Menu)->Select Classic Start menu

Here you go Reyj: I just upgraded to Windows XP and I miss having the My Computer icon on my desktop. Is there a way to get it back?
A: Actually, it's easy.
1. Right-click a blank area of your Desktop and select Properties from the resulting menu.
2. You should now be looking at the business end of the Display Properties screen. Hit the Desktop tab, then the little "Customize Desktop" button.
3. Another little screen pops up and the first thing you should see is a section for Desktop Icons. Click the ones you want to appear and you're all set. Note that not only can you choose My Computer, but also My Documents, My Network Places, and (surprise) Internet Explorer. Just put a check next to the ones you want.
