Dell / DIMENSION 2400
May 29, 2009 at 08:19:58
Specs: xp home
so i was trying to reformat my HD and when i got to the part with the partitions, i deleted the one that was 76294 MB not sure what else it said... i'm guessing i deleted the wrong partition. everything got screwed up after that and it never loaded xp.

i rebooted, but after loading the drivers, it goes to a screen that says

windows XP home edition setup
welcome to setup.
this portion of the setup program prepares xp to run on your computer

set up xp
repair xp
quit

after i select set up (enter)
i get the following screen:

the following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer

use the up and down arrows

set up xp on theis item
creat a partitin in the unpartitioned space, C
delete the selected partition, d

76294 mb disk 0 at Id0 on bus 0 on atapi
(setup cannot access this disk)

it won't let me creat a partition or delete it...
so i push enter and then i get a screen that says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

tech info:
STOP:0x00000008E (0xc0000000050xF84C7F3E, 0xF80B2778)

so i have no idea what to do! did i screw up my computer? it's a dell dimension 2400 desktop. any info would be helpful! thx

How about telling us why you felt it was necessary to reformat? If you were trying to fix a problem, it's possible that same problem is what's preventing you from reformatting/reinstalling Windows.

How many partitions did you have on your computer previously and when you say you rebooted and installed the driver, does that mean it worked ok the first time?
