Hi the other day i was downloading music from KaZaA. After i had finished downloading 5 songs or so i went to open them in my music file. I noticed a couple of my music files had been renamed with this extension .vbs. The next day i noticed that a lot more of the files had been renamed and now all of my MP3 files in that folder have been renamed with the extension .vbs.
Heres an example of what the files look like
"Sublime - Santaria.mp3.vbs" it also says that all the file sizes are only 10k which is not true. I tried deleting the .vbs part of the file but it says
"Cannot rename Sublime - Santaria.MP3: A file with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different file name."
Also my home page set to this
"http://www.skyinet.net/~koichi/jf6TRjkcbGRpGqaq198vbFV5hfFEkbopBdQZnmPOhfgER67b3Vbvg/WIN-BUGSFIX.exe"
and if i set it to say Google.com the next time i start the computer its back to that Skyinet s---. Also the computer seems really bogged down and everything runs kinda sluggish. I really have no idea how fix this problem so if anyone could help me id really appreciate it. Thanks. Wes.

Wes, THIS IS A VIRUS.
You know that computer reads from right to left and that vbs is a visual basic extention.
i.e. blabla.jpg.exe = blabla.exe. The jpg extention is just there to distract you.

Hi,

Do you have any AntiVirus Protection in your system? The only solution to that is your computer has been invated by virus. For more infor, please read this. http://www.cai.com/virusinfo/encyclopedia/descriptions/f/fica.htm Try to install Norton Virus protection on your system and that might help you to take it out.

Good Luck,

Hi,

Well, if you have Norton Virus the latest version then use it ASAP. This virus known as a trojan virus, therefore go to this link and download this small program and i hope this will do it. http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/details.html

Good luck

I run this on my XP partition to avoid the Norton conflicts I was having. Its free and seems to be quite good.
Nothing will rename your infected files or "cure" the whole system however. Some things will be lost (most likely).

ok i think that trojan remover migh have killed the virus. But, all my music files still have this .vbs on them. when i click on the properties for my music folder its say that i have 782 files in there which is double what i really have. if i try to rename the files back to mp3's its says that theres a file in there with the same name already but i cant see it. all i can see are the ones with the .vbs. How can i get these .vbs out of there and my olds one back? also my home is still screwed up. thanks for all the help. Wes

Delete all the 10K .vbs files
Then try tools >folder options > view hidden and system files
(in case they are hidden now)
(or try cmd > dir in that directory)
(or try your mp3 player scan to locate them if they've been placed in a hidden folder)

There are batch renaming programs, but if they are all 10k in size, they are not your music files anyway

You should really scan EVERYTHING you download, or at least store it in a TEMP folder for quarantine, and scan the folder before you open anything in it.

I have two words for you.

Panda AntiVirus!

Yes, it works with XP & they have a Free Active Scanner that will detect & disinfect as well over the web. If you know which virus it is, you can download the removal program utility.

www.pandasoftware.com

P.S., By the way, they update their virus signiture files DAILY! So, they usually can detect viruses & have cleaners a lot sooner than others.

Good Luck,

John
