I have an epson perfection 636u scanner. i can't find a driver for it. i tried the win2k driver but no avail.. id appreciate anyhelp.. if it is possible to get a generic scanner driver thatd be fine too..

I need one too. Contacted Epson -- they said this wasn't one of the scanners they planned on supporting. I have had this less than a year, and spent a lot of money on it.
Guess this will be my first and LAST Epson product!

I have that scanner too and just got it last year. I can't believe they are not going to provide a driver. THIS WILL BE THE LAST EPSON ANYTHING I BUY!! b---tardS!

I have an HP ScanJet 3500c.....Windows xp doesn't have a driver for this either.. I've downloaded the "so-called" driver from HP, but IT DOESN'T WORK! Hmmmmmm.....could Microsoft have screwed up?

Epson thinks the Windows 2K driver works. But I can't install it, Windows XP apparently doesn't have the Microsoft files that Epson thinks it has "usbscan.sys". I cannot believe that Epson didn't have enough time to produce the drivers for XP.Guess they just want to sell more iron. The last Epson Product I am going to buy.

I also need a driver for my 636 scanner. I want Epson to know how many of us there are that are NOT going to buy any more Epson products if they are not going to provide drivers when new OS's come out. Send them a message any way that you can. I did! This really SUCKS!!!

I got XP to install 636U using driver downloaded from Epson UK site, driver is for Win2K and XP identifies the scanner as an "Epson GT7000U." However, it installs OK, scanner operates fine, will scan directly into MS Photodraw, other apps. I agree Epson support stinks, we should all message saying no more Epson purchases. Anyway, I uploaded all files to http://www.driverguide.com as ZIP archive called "636U.zip." I added sys files, etc. to archive so install utility should find everything in same directory.

I, too, downloaded the Win2k driver but had to manually search for and install many of the files that XP repeatedly reported as missing. Some, I had to copy to another folder to get the install to work. The install took a while to do, but so far, my scanner is working. I also discovered that Epson is not supplying a driver that "fully" supports the Epson 900 printer that I have. Several functions that I frequently used are not available to me. PROTEST TO EPSON!

I have the Perfection 636 (no U).
Does anyone have instructions for downloading
and installing a make shift driver that would
at least allow me to use the scanner, even
if not at optimum settings?I was dissapointed that Epson didn't have
an email contact. I do plan on printing out
this page, blacking out the names and sending
it to Epson. (provided I can get my Epson
printer to work with XP)
I thank you all in advance for your time,
advice and support.

I have both a scanner (636 scsi) and a printer from Epson.
The printer works but the scanner doesn't. I use to tell my friends to buy Epson but not now.

Well, I'm bummed. I went to http://www.driverguide.com as stated in a few
messages above this one. I did the song and
dance of joining, did a search and didn't find anything. Did a company search and they
list links to Epson's driver page. I know how
to get to Epson! I couldn't figure out a way
to find the 636U.zip so I'm back to square one. I didn't think it would work but I wanted to try....

Epson Perfection 636 SCSI
I downloaded the latest W2000 driver from Epson, and it appears to be working. I no longer have the 1-touch scan, but at least I can use the scanner. The procedure to install was a little special since just executing the TWAIN driver file didn't do the trick. Windows apparently hunts around and doesn't find the unpacked files.
Do this (more or less):
0)Execute the driver download file. UNINSTALL the scanner if it is currently detected. REBOOT.
1)Control Panel: printers and other hardware
2)Add hardware
3)After windows scans : Add new hardware device (all the way at the bottom)
4)Specify the driver to add (Don't let Windows search)
5)Etc., HAVE DISK
6)Point Windows to C:\EPSON\PER63642A2K\Epson\Win2000
which is where the TWAIN file will unpack the driver.
7)Finish up (maybe reboot)Some programs will NOT work with these drivers, but both Presto! Page Manager and PhotoDeluxe BE 1.0 (i.e. the packaged stuff) will work.
I may have left out a step or two, but that's how I got it to work. Good Luck!!
Epson stinks anyway!

I just installed my Epson perfection 636 scsi on XP using the Win 2000 drivers on Epson's site. The problem is that you have to install them manually just like Derek. Be prepared to search for the files needed.

I installed the Win 2000 driver. I didn't realize I had it working because I selected
the Perf 636 when importing and I should have selected Twain3. Also, I have to have the scanner on when I boot up or it won't work.
Just FYI..
At least I no longer have a $200+ paper weight and now I can scan. Thanks for all the input and help here.
