I'd try a live cd to see what is on the system. If you can access the drive and personal files then I'd copy them off to a usb or networked drive.
Then maybe I'd use a password reset on the system unless you have encrypted folders. If so then you need to recover the passwords. Might try logonrecovery.

how do i do a password rest with the xp disk i can get to the recover part but i still can not get the user names to show up or log in

Google Search "Bart PE". Create this disk and boot off of it. It will give you many options to repar the windows xp and user accounts.

If user is disabled then might also try safe mode start and log on to administrator. Should be same password as the admin user. The go to control panel and users. See if they are disabled.
