i moved my computer from downstairs to upstairs and when i plugged it all back up (and yes it is ALL plugged up) the sound had gone. i cant get sound from my surround sound i then plugged the original speakers in and nothing nor can i get sound from the monitor. i opened the volume control on bottom right or desktop and had a fiddle and still nothing. The speakers deffinately work as i plugged them into my personal mini disk player and i worked. has anyone had this problem or can anyone help please.

on a regular pc (as i am refering to a custom built, i dont really know much about the form factor or ports on an e-machine) there is one input for sound (i.e. a microphone) and two outputs (speakers or headphones or whatever). try the other output. If you have a sound card in your computer (again, i cant really tell u if u do) then unplug the power to your pc, open up the side panel, and remove and replace the sound card (to ensure that it is properly connected, and sometimes it will initialize it). To tell if you have a sound card, on the back of the pc near the bottom there will be some rectangular sections. If the speakers plug into one of these then you have a sound card. Note that that will most likely void any warrenty you have on the machine. Also, re-installing the sound drivers may work too.

I would check your plugs again and make sure you've plugged everything in correctly.

Most times I'd seen this it is usually because something isn't plugged in properly.

If you are certain it's not hardware or this, then repost your question in hardware with details of your system specifications.
