"the system has been wiped out"
What does that mean? has the hard drive been wipe/formatted?? or it just won't boot into xp? what exactly happens when you attempt to boot?

check your manual to see iof you have a hidden partition. If you do, you may be able to recover your system.

well it is my daughters laptop but she has lost all the disks and paper work on it and she is unavailable for awhile...but she tried to go around her password because she forgot it. she put in a xp disk that wiped out everything..i thought it was only a problem with the screen not getting lit up so i had it fixed for 150. dollars so my granddaughter could use it to start college soon...but after i brought it home i found out she could'nt use it...i can't afford to take it back to the computer place as i have cusody of 4 grandkids and they need stuff too...so if i can download something free it would be wonderful...and thank you for the help

probably can't use that to install xp on another computer. If you have no other operating system to install and the drive is wiped and there is no partition on the drive with the files need to install xp, then a free operating system could be an option.
