I hate power cuts!

I was thinking for a solution as again i'm with a damn desktop and I never know what windows where opened last (programs)I whould like to know if there is a way in windows or a program that makes screenshots every 5 minutes and saves it to a folder and or makes a log of last open windows, running programs.
I know there is things that let you shutdown the pc after power cuts but it I can't waste more money.
Please help me, hope I explained mysefl.

To be honest, if powercuts are that regular you need to invest in a protection system - regularly shutting down your PC like that will shorten it's life & mean you'll likely lose everything. Decent 'power-down' UPS's start at under $100.

A waste of money does not apply to a good UPS (uninterruptible power supply). APC is one good company and they also have PowerChute software which will actually shut down Windows then power down the computer safely. A waste of money is NOT having good protection against known events and losing more than just some bits of data.
