I get a blank screen when I restarted my PC

April 22, 2011 at 10:08:23
Specs: Windows XP
On my Windows XP Home Edition OS, I went to RUN and typed in MSCONFIG after which I went to the SAFEBOOT.INI tab and clicked on it. When I restarted the PC, I had a blank screen already. Please help. How do I get it back to normal working mode again? When rebooting, though, I still see the Window XP rebooting page but after that it goes to a blank page already. Help! Help! Help!

Before You Try System Restore

System Restore should only be used after trying less comprehensive methods of troubleshooting. System Restore changes many files and registry entries, and in some cases might replace more files than you want restored. So when I first run into a computer problem, I reboot my computer. I'm still amazed at how often a problem is solved by using this simple technique. Or, if your computer won't start in normal mode, reboot your computer, press F8 during the boot process, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

"If System Restore doesn't work in Normal Mode, it might work in Safe Mode. To use System Restore in Safe Mode, press the F8 key during reboot and choose Safe Mode. When your computer starts in either Safe Mode or Normal Mode, System Restore can be used to capture a working previous state. System Restore can't be opened unless the system is bootable into one of these modes."

Thanks, Johnw. Tried it. However, as I went to Safe Mode the screen showd some text (lots of them that occupied the whole screen). The last showed something like this..."multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers\Mup.sys"

It seemed it stopped here. :-(

Are there anymore possible solutions? Can't get to the page where I may click on the "Start" button.

It can hang on that PRL, give it 10 mins.

Or, if that dos'nt work.

How to fix an XP\Win 2000 System that freezes after loading mup.sys while booting
Symptoms: 1. When booting in normal mode my windows XP system hangs after displaying the XP logo and progress bar. A black screen appears and then..
or 2. When booting windows XP in safe mode the last driver that shows loaded is mup.sys. Then...
or 3. Instead of XP freezing at mup.sys windows reboots itself repeatedly just after that driver loads.

Thanks, again. Will go through the suggestion and hope it works. I am afraid I could lose everything stored if I didn't do it right. :-(

Will keep you posted, Johnw.

Happy Easter!

"I am afraid I could lose everything stored if I didn't do it right"
Once you start getting problems & you hav'nt backed all your important stuff up, anything can happen & there is only one safe way to save them, that's by taking the hard drive out & slaving it to another comp.
