During installation windows asked you for a product key, you probably entered your name same where along the line. So windows is not fooled.
If you using XP Pro, remember its designed for business. Thats why they include that log on for security on a network.

Click your Start Button, select Run and type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes") in the box. Make sure your name is hi-lighted and uncheck "Users must enter a name and password to use this computer". Click Apply.

Go into My Computer, then go to User Accounts. Click "Change the way users log on or off." Then put a checkmark on "use the welcome screen". This should get rid of the logon box everytime you start your pc.
