I can't start IIS

OS: xp pro 2002 sp2
CPU/Ram: 2.53ghz/1.5 gb ram
Product: HP Pavillion a700y

hp pavilion - 2.53 ghz, 1.5 gig ram, win xp pro sp 2.
I can't start Internet Information Services (IIS)
It reqeusts a Win XP SP2 disc but won't copy files from the i386 directory. I tried another disc also.

Any ideas?

Here's what I tried:
- checked in Services to verify that IIS service is not running.
- control panel - add/remove Windows Components
- selected checkbox for IIS
- next
- Config Components window produces Copy Erro
Setup connot copy the file staxmem.dl_. Also, if I cancel and say procede without file more files, with the dl_ also won't copy.
