veade,
You may consider the following:

1.Your Windows XP CD-ROM is scratched, smudged, or dirty. Clean the Windows XP CD-ROM with a soft cloth, insert it into the CD-ROM drive, and then click OK.

2. Your CD-ROM drive is not working correctly or the CD-ROM might be vibrating too much for the laser to accurately read the data. Try to secure the drive with additional screws if needed. Clean the CD-ROM drive using a Cleaning Disc.

3. If you are using multiple CD-ROM drives, your computer may be trying to locate files on the wrong drive.Try to disable the CD-ROM drives that you are not using.

4.Your computer has damaged or mismatched random access memory (RAM) or cache memory.

5.Your computer has Ultra direct memory access (DMA) turned on in the BIOS settings, and the data is moving too quickly. Change from DMA mode to Processor Input/Output (PIO) mode to lower your data transfer rate.
Hope this helps.

Hello,Yes win 98 disk is better, also when useing the disk if you are not making more then one partion say (yes) to large disk support.Keep in mind when fdisking a hard drive with a NTFS file sys a win 98 disk will not see that file sys it will tell you that the disk might have a virus on it among other things. In most case dont worry just follow through with the fdisk.

Hi,

Hey beans, the fdisk utility from the 98 boot disk won't recognize the ntfs file system. What you suggest is not an option.

AMD Athlonxp 3200+ OC
Asus A7N8x-deluxe-E
ATI AIW 9600pro
2x WD SATA raptors/raid0
Corsair XMS3200
16x Lite-on DVD
12x DVD-R
48x Lite-on CDRW
Aspire Super Alien Case

Hello, that right 98 will not see ntfs it will it will state its a third party error virus ect.it run the the list then come to a prompt A:\> type fdisk so it it looks like A:\>fdisk ,your option for large disk support will prompt you to say yes or no.Then follow through with the rest of the fdisk removing and creating a new partion when done reboot with disk still in drive the run your format command format the drive after its done take your disk out and put in your(reboot)with your xp disk and install as instructed.
