I can't install XP on a raid 0! Some say you can and some say you can't. I've tried over 10 times and I'm frustrated. Yes, I pressed F6 and loaded the approiate raid driver. The XP cd cannot find my hardrives (in an array) during the setup. Here is my spec: 1.4 Ghz AMD, 256 DDR, 2x 40GB WD, Radeon 8500 128MB, Asus A7V266-E, and Promise Fasttrak 100 (or so i believe). Can anyone tell me a fail-proof precess to Install XP? Thank you good people. 8)

My specs- Soyo Dragon 1.1 Athlon(notXP) 1.33 512mb Crucial DDR2100 (2-128mg sticks) Visiontec Extacy GF3 Ti500 64meg 2-40gig Western Digital hds in RAID 0 (onboard Promise Fastrack 100Lite raid controller) Onboard sound Onboard NIC 16X DVD Plextor CD/RW 450wt Power supply in a mid tower case 5 fans (gets hot here) I have the hard drives set in the m/b bios as not installed w/ boot sequence of RAID/CD/ROM/floppy- both drives master on separate data cables to m/b Have a 64k stripe size set in the RAID bios. Windows XP Home that ROCKS! (sorry for the drool) Does the Raid bios screen come up? Have you set up the drives in the RAID bios? Are you doing a CLEAN install as opposed to an upgrade? Clean is best and do it in NTFS. When it asks you to hit F6 are you using XP or Win2000 drivers off of a floppy or CD? I had to use Win2000 drivers on a floppy before it would work. I had no problems but maybe I was lucky.

Make sure your RAID partition is set as 'active', or the system will not see it. Regards.

Yes, I'm trying to install a clean install of XP Pro. I got the raid array to work and used XP drivers I downloaded from Promise.com for the Promise Fasttrak 100Lite. Oh, those HDs of mine are unpartitioned. Fdisk doesnt recognize the second HD so I left it as is. What/How do you partition HDs on a raid array? How do I know if my raid partition is set as 'active'?

This is my first RAID system, so please forgive me if I backtrack occasionally. When you start up the computer, you should see a display during POST for MB FastTrak 133 Lite or something to that effect. It should either say 'No array is defined', or show your RAID hd. It should also tell you what key(s) to press to enter FastBuild Utility (mine is Ctrl+F). Enter FastBuild, as this is where you get the 2nd hd combined with the first to make one big HD partition (in your case about 80GB). Just follow the prompts and you should be OK. Once you have your array defined you will need to FDISK and format (I can't remember in FDISK if you have to format or not to mark partition active. If not, save some time and let XP install do the formatting).Either way, make sure you mark the partition 'active'. Now during the XP install, you should be able to choose to format in FAT32 or NTFS (use NTFS). The rest should go as usual for XP installation. Remember to F6 when prompted and install RAID divers. Just a side note, I would recommend getting a 3rd small HD and put it on either IDE1 or IDE2 for data, unless you backup to cd's religiously. If one of your RAID HD's fails, you lose everything in a performance array. Let me know if you need more help, and I'll do my best. Have fun.

I forgot to remind, before XP install, set BIOS boot devices - #1 CDROM, #2 RAID. Cheers.

thnx. I'll try it right now and get back to you. Do you know how to create a XP boot disk or do I have to use Fdisk from my Win98 boot disk?
