Hey pal Windows XP has got a bad compactibility for "INTERNAL MODEMS" and a fair good one with "EXTERNAL MODEMS".As u got a PCI modem(or internal modem) u need to install a Windows 2000 driver from the above link in this post i.e www.drivers.com or go to your manufacturers site!During the installation process windows xp will tell you that this version version of drivers hasent been passed by logo test...bill gates rulz......bill's wife rulz...etc dont care for a bull on these error messages!Remember if u installed your drivers correcly Windows XP will allot your modem to the COM3 or COM4 port! If you see any COM2 or PCI allotment re-install your drivers :)

For nsrd_in: Win XP has good compatibiity with internal modems that have compatibility with XP. Compatibility is a two way street. I installed a PCI modem that just happened to have XP drivers and it has had no problem, whatsoever.
FODA: Get the correct drivers and your modem will be ok.
