Use the Windows natve driver. let Windows find the modem and then when it comes to installing a driver let Windows install the 'Standard Modem Driver 56k' and it should work well. There is no XP driver for my modem and this is what i did and I have had no trouble at all.

Earlybird,
does what you recommended apply if XP had given the warning that the existing modem would not work?

I can't answer that one but you have nothing to lose by trying. Does XP recognise that a modem is there at all?

By any chance do you have Quicken 2000. I found that Quicken 2000 caused by internal modem to stop working. Once I uninstalled that everything was fine.
