i cant install any programs

i cant install any programs...i have already tried to install two different programs and they wont....when i click on the icon or program to install i see the hourglass icon for a sec and then it just does nothing...i checked my task manager and i see that it is running the install i just cant see it for some reason or something..if anyone has any idea on what this is or how it can be fixed i would greatly appriciate it.thanks

Have you tried defragging? I use a free utility called diskeeper lite, it's free, and after the first defrag which seems to take forever (125GB HD), I defrag once a day and it only takes about 5 minutes.
Also, You may have spyware, you can also try Spybot S&D
Make sure to up-date it before using it. 1-Check for problems 2-Fix Problems 3- Immunize
