I can't delete a shortcut

Comment:
I have a shortcut to a folder on my D drive in the start menu (where you usualy have the IE shortcut as well, not in the most often programs). The path no longer exist, and I want to delete it. I right click it and select "Remove from this list". Nothing happens... I click on it and get a message saying that the location file no longer exist, and a question whether I want to remove it. I click yes... and nothing happens... I create a folder with the location specified in the shortcut. I click on it and it opens. Then I try to delete it... and nothing happens... What is going on??

If the above doesn't work, try deleting it directly from the start menu using My Computer.

If you right click it and choose delete, does it do anything?
If that doesn't work, it sounds like you are using XP with the new XP layout. Try changing it to Classic Start menu mode (right click Start Menu - Properties - Start Menu tab - Classic Start menu). Now look for the shortcut and try deleting it. Change your layout back to the XP Start menu (if you want).
I hope this works for you.

In Classic mode, try searching for the shortcut (icon/program). Do you find it? Does it open anything? If no, can you delete the icon(s)? Switch back to Standard mode. Is it gone now? If no, try creating a new shortcut. Right click the shortcut - Properties - Find Target. Does the target open anything? If no, can you delete it now?

Try: Right click Start, then Customize button, then click "Clear List" button. -------------- Also: You did not say that you tried it in the Windows Safe-mode like someone suggested??? Hold down F8 during boot.
