Hi,
I am unable to change my User Account Name in XP. I was able to change it once, but now it won't change. It is the Admin. Account Name. I can change the picture, just not the name. I don't have any other accounts other than guest but I don't know if it is turned on.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Jodie

First some quiz...

Is the Adm account the default Adm account?

Is this Adm accountthe only account you have on this particular PC?

I think that it must be. When I go into User Accounts under Control Panel, my name is there beside the picture I have chosen and under my name is Computer Administrator.
I hope that has answered your question :S
Thank you very much,
Jodie

.......... also, beside my name in User Accounts, is "Guest" and it appears to be turned off.
I would just like to change it back to "Jodie" (as it shows when I enter User Accounts). I changed it to include my husband's name a little while ago - but decided I wanted to change it back since he can create his own User Account anytime if he would like..... Do I ever feel like a dummy now :(

I believe your PC has you, Jodie as the Computer Administartor with a lot of RIGHTS to make changes in your Computer settings.

If you want to 'relinquish' the Admin title, you must first make someone else the administrator.
In Control Panel > User Accounts

Create a New Computer Administartor Account and setup a password.

Next you enter the PC with that Admin Account and Change your Account to Jodie like you did before.

Hello & thank you XP User & MaadHurimn for your responses to my query!
Your time and consideration is appreciated indeed :D
It took a couple of tries, but I was finally able to change my User Account Name. I tried a couple of things and I guess it finally took (thank goodness)!!!
I went into Computer Management and changed my User Account Name from there.
I'm not sure if that's what did it, or if the OS had something running in the background or what - but whatever it was, I now have my name back at the top of my Start Menu :D
I won't be fooling around with my name again - the picture maybe, but not the name, lol.
What a relief! Phew!!!
Thanks again,
Jodie
