I can't burn data onto CD-Roms! Nero prompts me to select files which I want to burn, and then when I click Burn CD it prompts me to save an image file(?) Image.nrg
Even though I select the CD-RW with an empty CD in it, Nero always saves an image file on my hard drive, with only a shortcut being placed on a blank CD-ROM.When I go to Tools panes and choose Recorder->Choose Recorder there is only one available recorder in the list: Image Recorder.
I'm using BUSlink 48x12x48 CD-RW, but in Device Manager it is indicated as CD-ROM. I installed the latest Windows XP update, which supposedly deals with a similar problem. Also, the latest model BUSlink has drivers for is 40x12x48 :(
I'm desperate! What should I do? What do I click in Nero to save an image file onto a blank CD rather than on my hard drive?

You probably just need to update your nero software. I have this problem everytime I install my orginal version of nero, once I update there is no problem. I believe the most current version of nero right now is 5.8.2.2.
Surf over to the nero website 'www.nero.com'
and DL the most current update.HopeThatHelps

Yeah most people dont realize that the updates for nero are mostly cd recorder updates. And your cd writer being so new wasnt recognized by nero. Also check for firmware updates from the Buslink website. If there are updates you should install them because most are for either new features or bug fixes. Check to see and install. Good luck

sound like yo got thins under control my question is why cant you burn on the fly?
is it possable you are suffering from a lack of sys resources(memory swap file)and are you running in dma mode? and how old is you hard drive? these things can be overlooked good luck
