The system doesn't boot.
The file/folder
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
is missing or corrupt
The problem is, with the original XP CD (the only one I have) I can't reinstall the system (I don't care if I lose data) because when it looks for previous windows versions it gets blocked. Otherwise if I use the R repair option, when it asks me what copy of windows I want to repair and I answer 1 (the only option, C\WINDOWS) it also gets blocked. I can't even do a format c: (I have no worries about the information)What can I do? Thanks in advance

During the repair attempt, (NOT THE “R” OPTION) it looks like the programming sees the C:\Windows file – is that correct.
What do you mean by “blocked?” What is the error?
Using the main install option in the repair console, there is a point where the install wizard offers you a choice to repair or install fresh, then on the following window, you are asked to format the drive. Have you gotten that far before the unit stops?
Tomorrow the Stars!

I boot with the CD. After loading something like a mini-system, the screen "Windows XP professional installation program" appears. There are three options:
. Enter to intall Windows XP -> Then, when looking for previous versions of windows (of course, there is one) it doesn't pass from there, it freezes
. R to access the recovery console -> Then it appears the recovery console screen and the following:1. C\WINDOWS
In which windows installation you want to start a session?
Of course, there is only one option, so I press 1 and then it freezes again.

I read the other link. I can't use the recovery console nor the installation program. So, how can I get a startup disk from Windows 98, 95 or ME? It's been years since I don't use either of these operating systems...

Well, thanks. I made the recovery w98 disk, loaded it, but when I got the prompt and wrote "cd c:", it said
'Invalid drive specification'
I can't believe it, it's impossible even to make a "format c:". It sais
'Invalid drive specification' as well.Any ideas?
