Hi. Okay first off I'm all different kinds of confused on this one. 2 HDD working fine. One 160 gig with XP Home one 500 gig with XP Pro. XP Home gets formatted into Vista. Works fine except unable to dual boot anymore. Reformat to XP Pro. Still unable to dual boot. The XP pro 500 gig is still IN TACT. Every file on there is still on there and I can view it but I can not boot into it. Does anyone know why this might be? Thanks in advance. This is my Boot.ini under system config.

You changed the MBR when you reinstalled the OS.

If you want a dual boot with XP Pro and Vista, the normal way to do that (according to Microsoft rules) is install XP Pro first on the boot drive and then install Vista on the secondary drive. Then the MBR will be set up correctly.
You can try searching for a way around this limitation.

thank you for your replies. I figured the problem out prior to seeing this. My bios overwrote my MBR on the main drive but installed vista on the other. Fixboot and fixmbr did nothing so I cracked my passworded drive and got my data out of it then wiped the thing. Thank you for all of your help. Been a good learning experience to disconnect any additional hard drives before installing a new OS on something. never know what the bios may choose to do among other things.
