When I try to add a printer thru control panel, I get the message: "operation could not be completed". I have an Epson 777 and have installed the updated drivers, to no avail. Any ideas?

Is the printer showing up in the control panel allready? Does the control panel show any errors? Perhaps it cannot add what is allready there. According to the Epson site it should be recognized w/o any additional software required. Does the Com port or USB port that it's plugged into show anything attached?

The control panel shows no printer installed. The USB ports show no problems when I run the test in XP. There is no indication of any error. But when I click on "add a printer"....it tells me that the function is unavailable.
I appreciate your help. Thanks.

Make sure you are logged in as administrator.Plug in and turn on the printer. Then, open the control panel and switch it to "classic view". Next, try to add it using the "add hardware" icon instead of the "Printers and Faxes" one.

I tried adding the printer as you directed. What I got was: "an error occurred during installation. RPC server is unavailable." I don't get it.

Go to the control panel and click on "administrative tools"
Then "Services"
Make sure the line called "remote procedure call(RPC). is enabled. If not right click on it and choose enable.
Do the same for the line called "print spooler",making sure it is set to automatic.Jimi_l

I did it, and still nothing.
I very much appreciate your help on this matter, though. It was kind of you to show an interest. I think that maybe I have some corrupt files, since I used a burned copy of XP. I may need to transfer in some new files. Thanks again.

Thanks Bob! I reinstalled windows, right over the existing installation. It recognized that I have a printer, and I am now working on installing it properly.
