I cannot view jpeg attachments in emails

January 13, 2011 at 14:33:23
Specs: Windows XP

I tried to download a jpeg attachment in another format but now I cannot view any jpeg attachments. My computer tries to open the jpeg attachments up in microsoft word. All I get are lines of small boxes and other characters. How do I get back to being able to view jpeg attachments?

Thank you for your reply. I am a little puzzled about this because I did not add or install any additional image editors or viewer applications. When I first viewed the attachment that was sent to me it was fine and I could see the image. When I saved it I had two choices. Save it as a jpg file or "ALL FILES." I mistakenly selected ALL FILES. After I did this I could not view any jpg files in any of my emails. When I clicked on them the to open them they tried to open in Microsoft Word instead of MS Paint or any other image handling application. Somehow I have to turn ALL FILES off, but I do not see how. I must admit that I am not a very computer literate person so I have to be led through this step by step.

silvertoolmanm, Go to that link and click on the "imgeditor.zip" file to download it, Save it to somewhere you can find it easily. Now double click that file to unzip it and expose the exe file and then double click the exe file to open it. I would the checkmark all of the 12 file extensions then click the "Repair associations" button.

You could also right click on any jpg file, choose "Open With", select "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer", checkmark the small box (Always use the selected program etc.), click OK.
