I have 2 machines both with XP I can ping machine#1 to itself I can ping machine#2from #1 I can ping machine#2 to itself I can ping machine#1 to #2 I can see a network group on Machine #1 but it only shows machine#1 I can see a workgroup folder from machine #2 but with no machines in it. Both machines use the same workgroup name. 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.2 Subnets on both are the same 255.255.255.0 All firewalls are turned off including XP built in firewall. I cannot think of anything else to do except kick it out the windowsXP!!!!!
One of the problems you might be having is with the setup of microsofts file sharing. Even though file sharing and printer sharing are on it doesn't always have everything to do with seeing the other computer through network neighborhood or pinging each others pc. Make sure that each computer has a different name and that they are in the same workgroup. Also you need "Client for Microsoft Network" enabled (there are other available clients to choose from for your networking but this is the most basic used). Once this is all setup on all the computers within the lan you shouldn't have a problem with file sharing or pinging each others computer. If you need any help or further assistance then just email me ;)
