hyperlinks are opening blank pages

OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Pen III 450MHZ

In Internet Explorer 6, whetever hyperlink I click on, I get a blank page (in the address field, there's nothing..not even the well know "about:blank". I did a restore defaults but in vain. And if I type manually the address of the hyperlink, the page is displayed!

Maybe some help in this:

You cannot open a new Internet Explorer window or nothing occurs after you click a link
(or window is blank)
