Hi,

Got an immense problem. My burner doesn't work in XP. Everythings seems to be alright and XP recognizes the drive correctly (Philips3610CDr/rw), but NOT as a CD'r, just as a standard CD-Rom that by chance has a name with 'cdr' in it.

So ... I can't write, not with Nero, CDRwin, ... Everything just seems to work fine, but the programs all crash when they attempt to write. Also, it's possible to copy 'n past files to the CD'r with the new DirectCD-like build-in XP functions.

Has anyone had the same problem with their CD Burner, and managed to solve it ?

Any help or comment would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks already for reading,
Garfield

BTW Tech support at the philips site is not working either :( When you click on a link in 'support', it just loads the same screen again ... damn damn ...

I have the Yamaha CRW2100FXZ External Firewire drive and I have the same problem in Windows XP. I get to the point of "writing" the CD-R (or even simulating it) and the whole system locks up tight. It does not matter what software I use or if ASPI is installed or not. Same results. XP Burner Pro's - Please help!

Tim K., that's exactly the problem I had. And I guess your burner had the same internal structure as mine. Not being alone may lead to a solution ...

Thanks a lot Dude for the suggestion. I sent you a mail with a request for the file. When I have it I'll let you know if it works...

Just did some more testing on my Yamaha Firewire writer...works fine in a Win98 environment (I tested it with CloneCD). So I know it is not the drive. I have tried the ForceASPI files and removed them, too in WinXP...both with the exact same results: as it would begin to write, the entire OS would lock-up requiring a reboot. Usually I would get to 4% or 5% and this would happen.

Is there anyone that is successfully using WinXP (2600) with a External Firewire Writer?

Good News. My Firewire CD burner is working under WinXP. First, I made sure no ASPI drivers were installed using "killaspi", then checked it with "aspichk". I installed the 4.57 version of the aspi drivers, not the 4.60 which I had previously used and after rebooting, "aspichk" found all just fine including my devices, with no errors being reported. I used Nero to burn a CD for a friend and all worked great. I hope this can help some of you! I'm not sure what is different with the 4.60 version I had previously, but it just didn't seem to work for me.

Now bad news. Although one of my burns went fine, I tried again and got the same lock-up as before around 8%. I installed "ForceASPI1.7" (version 4.60) and checked it with "aspichk" and it looked fine. Went to burn again and this time it when to 18% before locking up. What is going on??? This doesn't make sense.

I have a Ricoh 8x8x32x (too lazy to check the model number) burner. It is brand new. worked amazing in WinME. Tried in Win98. Flawless there too.
But in XP there are problems.
it is not the aspi i dont think. i did use force aspi. the drivers are installed correctly.
Do we need specially written ASPI drivers for XP??? i dont know. This is pissing me off though.. i rarely get a good burn. In Fireburner (ALWAYS) and in CDRWIN (sometimes) it just stops burning sometime before 100%.
I dont know what to do?!??!? Any suggestions?

I found the solution for the CDD 3610 Philips burner.
I installed XP on a clean partition.
First my burner was only recognized as CDROM.
I installed the new Easy CD creator 5.02
Dont know wether it was a or b.
On the internet there are some compatibility updates. I did not install those.

When I do. I cant use any CDrom drive anymore.

I only installed Easy cd and directcd.. there is aso a third program.. Do not install that one. It gives problems.
After the install I rebooted the computer ..
With directcd running in the background it forces windows XP to recognize the philips burner to be seen as a cd r /rw

I have the Yamaha 2100SZ drive in my XP system, it replaces an earlier Yamaha cdr8424
which works perfectly. When I try to copy a CD with the new drive I get to around 25% and the buffer empties and the write fails. I have even had the drive replaced as being faulty!, but the replacement does exactly the same!! I have tried loading the 4.60 aspi drivers to no effect, I even loaded the latest firmware for the drive. I guess there must be something about some scsi drives and the way XP handles them If anyone can come up with a fix for this then I am sure there will be many grateful people.

I have had the same problems with my philips writer.

XPpro did detect it as a writer when I installed it as an upgrade from ME, but not when I did I fresh install on a new partition.

Does anyone know whether Philips are aware of the problem???

I'm gonna try the Easy CD creator 5 install as detailed above and see if that helps.
