Hi, how can I find out if my processor has Hyper Threading please? And what's the difference between a processor having it and supporting it or is it the same thing? Thanks very much Kate.

I have heard that in Device Manager it will show
up as having two processors in your computer.

If your comp came from a big company (Dell, HP...), and you haven't changed the processor, look at the Intel Inside sitcker and see if it says "HT".

Dell Dimension 4600i
Windows XP Home v2002 SP2
Microsoft Office 2003
Pentium 4 @ 2.8GHz
512MB DDR RAM
40GB HD

...If my computer's not happy, I'm not happy.

Have a look here http://www.intel.com/technology/hyperthread/

Supporting it and having it is generally the same thing. If you have it then you support multi-threaded software which uses it. To put it in simple terms, HT (Hyper Threading) Technology fools the computer into thinking it has 2 processors and not 1. This means the single processor will be sent twice as much to do and will work twice as hard.

Search Google, there is a lot of info out there about it.

Look in Device Manager. If it shows two processors you have HT and it is enabled. If only one processor showing there, then check your BIOS to see if HT is disabled. If you don't have an option in BIOS to enable/disable HT, then I'd say you don't have it.
