I just bought Compaque home computer for three months. However, internal modem didn't work. I was astonished to find they didn't install their modem, instead, they used Pctel,Inc's HSP 56 Micromodem.
When I tried to use the Internet, I was told the driver didn't support the hardware.

I installed Win XP and asked it to install HSP56 micromodem driver for Win 2000... although it showed some security warnings but i go with that driver and its working very fine ... also i'm connected now on net using HSP56 micromodem on Win XP!!!

You know I went through all the crap to Install WinXP again and I got to use the Win2k Drivers ONCE and the COMP hung every time I tried to shut down ... To my dismay I;m back to Win2k and ME

Sir I want HSP56 Micro Modem Driver for Win XP .I have Audio Riser Modem in win 98 the driver fit to this modem was HSP56 Audio Riser Modem. But in XP the The driver name is changed and it is also half Duplex My Voice modem was FUll Duplex .I m using same Modem But In XP the driver of Modem is Micro Modem Driver and Win 98 the Driver was HSP56 Audio Riser Modem . The main proble is of Half Duplex . I want it that type of driver which enable it Full Duplex.

After several attempts and crashes, I installed the w2k modem drivers and now my pctel micro modemn seems to be working, despite all the warnings not to do it. XP is still acting a little funny, like not opening files\programs etc. when double clicking. I will be buying a new modem with latest xp drivers, its a pain, Microsoft don't tell you nothing ahead of time, like you may have to buy new components becuase the old drivers are incompatable. Watch out for those old video card drivers too, don't load them unless you know they are compatable and or find a new xp driver for them. Other wise you'll have major problems.

I have an Hsp56 micromodem which my xp upgrade seems to have a problem with. If anyone can email me some websites to go to to obtain a compatible driver or update I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Dennis.

For all of u HSP 56 Seekers,
i was one of u also till some moment ago.
go to www.pctel.com/dowloads
and dowload the driver for HSP 56 MICROMODEM for win 2000.
i repeate, get the one named MICROMODEM
while installing it in ur device manager, XP will warn u, ignore it, and go ahead, and it'll work fine with it. just like i am online now with my HSP56 running on XPBy the way, any1 knows where to get the PCI Audio Legacy Driver for XP ????

I've tried every HSP56 MicroModem driver --none of them get properly recognized for installation, so apparently you lucked out and your modem was of the right series for that driver to work, but not for me.

I have got a Intel Celeron 500Mhz BOOKPC that comes with the HSP56 MicroModem Drivers: Audio Modem Riser. I tried installing the Win2000 drivers provided at http://www.pctel.com/downloads/drivers_download.htm but it does not work. In Win2000 environment, my system will hang when trying to dial up. In WINXP environment, the system will hang while installing the drivers (at the point when it's about to finish copying the files (exact file: puninstall.exe) to C:\Windows).

I think that microsoft is f*@#ing ppl over. I was never warned that none of device drivers would be ready till end of 2001. I can't believe this. If anyone has found something other than the Win2000 driver, please write me, I would greatly appreciate it. I have tried the 2001 one and it didn't work, all of them. So good luck others!
