I have 5 HP (Photosmart 7760 printer) programs loading at startup. I read at Bleeping Computer that I don't need them running at startup, so, correct me if I'm wrong, but I can run "msconfig" and uncheck them and apply, and ok. Then my computer will boot in "selective startup" from then on. Here's my question: Is there any problem with that?

None at all.
You can also use a program called Mike Lin's startup control panel to kill programs that run at startup. Then you don't get nagged about the computer running in selective startup mode.
Either way...that crap is not necessary to print, scan, buy ink, or get to the hp website. Skip

Thanks. What I thot. Thot I'd run it by the experts first, tho!
Then you don't get nagged about the computer running in selective startup mode Just an observation. I've unchecked things in msconfig Startup for years (yeah I realize it is really for diagnostics). However, I only get the one nag screen after the next boot which, when dealt with, never appears again.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
So, yes, I unchecked those pesky HP startup items, rebooted, said "don't show this again", it doesn't, my notification area is cleaner and I'm sure my box boots a little faster, too. So all's well and thanks to all on this forum for the help and advice!
Glad to hear it and thx for popping back to let us know.
