Have AMD and XP and HP Scanjet 6300c USB. I did all of the things that HP recommended. Software and downloads many times while on the phone with HP (over 3 hours). Sometimes I get a preliminary scan and it want scan any further. HP finally gave up and said it was the problem of XP and/Or AMD. I asked if any of their other flat-bed scanners could be recommended and they said no, its an intermediate problem. Email to AMD and they said it was XP problem?
I would like to use this one or buy another flat-bed that will work? Any help or comments would be appreciated.

AMD should have nothing to do with whether or not your scanner is working or not. It is either something to do with your OS or the scanner or your usb controller.
I suspect it to be a bad scanner. If it tries to scan and then doesn't then that to me reflects to the scanner failing. If it tried to scan and then failed because of some error on XP then it would reflect that xp was the culprit.
Hp should have been able to get an error code or something from it or tell you how to get one to report to them.
I think that HP is at fault and they don't want to admit to it.
My experience with HP products like scanners and copiers is that the driver files must be installed first prior to anything being plugged in . Also all HP files need to be deleted (not just uninstalled) or the drivers will keep refering to the old folder files, and cause all kinds of conflicts.
So what I would try as a last issue before sending it packing back to where it came from....
1) unplug the scanner from all power sources for atleast 10 min. to reboot itself.
2) go to device mananger and remove all driver files
3) use add/remove to uninstall any HP consols or scanner programs
4) use the search and locate any and all files that refer to HP scanner and delete them
5) use the install disc that came with the scanner and install the drivers to a SPECIFIED LOCATION like in a new folder in "MY DOCUMENTS".
6)Shut down the pc
7) plug in the power to the scanner and then plug it into the usb slot attached to the pc and not to a router or usb hub.
8) Start the pc and when windows finds new hardware select a specified place for it to search for drivers and direct it to the new folder you just created. This stops it from serching for other drivers.
9) do not install any other software or anything and then check to see if it will scan a document or picture.
If that doesn't get it to work then there is something wrong with the scanner.I use an HP 2110 all-in-one printer, scanner and copier. I have used it for almost 3 years and have not had any problems with it at all. You can find refurbished ones at OFFICE DEPOT for about $100 or get a later version with the memory card readers and lcd screens if you like.
I have recommended this stand alone unit to some of my friends and they have them and are happy with them too. SAM'S CLUB has about the best prices I have seen for any of the newer models.

Throw it away. Its probably junk like the the one I bought brand new for $460 when it first came out. Almost exactly a year after having it is just up and got stupid. I called HP and they said theyed look at it for only $235. Thats when I put it back into it box and stored it away until HP or some higher level intelligence can fix it for a reasonable price. I ended up getting a OneTouch 8700 at Sam' Club for $45 and never had a problem since. And if I did I wouldn't have any problems tossing it in the garbage.

we have alot of HP 6300C scanners connected to XP computers and they work fine.. I would agree that the scanner is the issue and not AMD or XP
