Good Evening,

I'm working on a friends machine. It's an HP Pavilion a1340n. The hdd is 250 gigs containing 2 partitions. C and D. D is the supposed recovery partiton, but when I view it it appears to be empty. I uncheck view hidden files and folders, but it still appears empty. Am I correct or am I missing some trick to be able to view it. TIA

No it is not supposed to be empty unless the owner deleted the recovery partition contents. Why not ask the friend what happened. Curiously what does the properties for drive D show for used space and free space? On my HP a1240n drive D shows roughly 7.09GB used and 0.92GB free. The recovery partition icon appears as a lock.

hi xpuser. The recovery partiton is empty except for 7 kb of space. I asked her if anyone deleted the partition and she said, what's a partition. She did mention something about a lock symbol and said she was locked out of the internet. There is no lock symbol now, so her boyfriend must have done something and won't admit it. Her original problem was she couldn't get online to set up her new account. She switched from aol dialup to local cable. I fixed that problem. She never deleted her aol dialup connection. Anyhow, thanx for the reply. She doesn't have the recovery disks and didn't create any when she got the machine, so I guess she'll have to get a set from HP. Have a good day.
