HP printer page number problem

I have an HP Photosmart 7260 printer. When I start to print documents I double click on the little printer icon in the task bar to look at what is in the print queue.
But here is what's really strange. Let's say I print a 9 page document. In the column that shows the "pages" that the printer is printing here is what is happening.
Page 1 starts to print and the "page" column shows 8/9. Page 2 starts printing and it shows 10/9. Page 3 starts printing and it shows 11/9. Page 4 starts printing and it shows 12/9. Page 5 starts printing and it shows 13/9. Page 6 starts printing and it shows 14/9. Page 7 starts printing and it shows 15/9. Page 8 starts printing and it shows 17/9. Page 9 starts printing and it shows 18/9.
What is going on here? Is my HP printer psychotic?

Because most printers like ink jets don't have sufficient memory to print whole pages in one shot they are broken up into segments.
Thus the large number of "pages."

Try powering the printer off and on. If it doesn't help, I would suggest contacting HP tech support.
