HP printer keeps reinstalling

Specs: Win XP Pro, P IV 3GHz / 1 Gig RAM

Hi,
I seem to be having a problem with an HP printer, namely psc 2175. I have 2 computers networked through a router. One machine has the printer physically connected to it, the other is using the printer as a shared printer. The machine using the shared printer across the network seems to constantly RE INSTALL the printer everytime a system configuration is changed, a program installed, or a *.pdf is generated. I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening. It is getting very annoying and I was wondering if this is a common problem with these all in one printer? Thanks!!!

I have many customers with HP multi-function printers shared on their network. Never had your problem. I would check with HP. Although, I must say that I have less problems overall when I install an HP jet direct printer server instead of sharing through another computer.

I, too, am having a similar problem with an HP PSC 2410 as lyle {above}.

This printer keeps reinstalling on any warm or cold reboot, just after installing a Linksys USB 802.11G device and before networking it.

Completed the peer-to-peer wireless network, shared the printer over the network and this repetitive reinstalling has shown up on the newly networked computer {a laptop}!

Running Windows XP Home, SP 1 on one Dell desktop and Windows XP Home, SP2 on a brand new HP laptop.

Any solutions to try? I have not as yet uninstalled and re-installed the printer. Uncertain this would help.

It acts like Windows XP does not see the printer has been already installed. Never asks for the CD to install, either. Just uses all files already on the hard drive. Replaced the USB cable from desktop to printer, no help. Once the "reinstall" routine completes, ALL functions of printer works.

Appreciate any feed back.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Att. Paul.

Have you any experience on making the PSC 2175 work on a USB printer server?

I have a HP PSC 2175 connected to a Roline USB printer server connected to a router and I can't make it work. When the printer is connected to the PC directly it installs drivers and works fine, but when I unplug the USB cable and plugs it in the printer server, the PC uninstalls the printer, and I can't add it through the printer server software.

Any suggestions?

- Henrik
